The Minor Arcana were added to the Tarot deck to help deal with matters pertaining to the physical plane.
The four suits of the Minor Arcana (Cups, Pentacles, Wands and Swords) are linked with the Zodiac signs, with the four elements of the ancient world, with the four basic psychological types and a number of other correspondences. Such associations were fundamental to the mystical world view; the idea that everything is connected with everything else in the Universe. The root of this philosophy lies at the heart of divination, astrology, geomancy, magic, alchemy and the like.
The Universe or Cosmos is viewed as one vast, living entity, and every part contributes to the greater whole, so therefore has meaning and value. The ancient hermetic dictum, ‘As above, so below’ sums up the theory that everything on our Earth mirrors and reflects the workings of the Universal Mind.
The Minor Arcana shows the day-to-day events and how these affect you. These are the things that comprise most of our lives, and although they often seem insignificant it is often our reaction to them that sets off major changes.
Experience in life can be said to be defined by your feelings at every moment of existence; the Minor Arcana reflects not just these experiences, but the manner in which you externalize them.
A Minor Arcana reading shows how you are affected by daily issues such as health, family, home and work.
