COLOURS and their MEANINGS and SIGNIFICANCE within the TAROT

COLOURS and their MEANINGS and SIGNIFICANCE within the TAROT

Colours have been known throughout the ages to influence our moods, energy, health, our environment and our personalities. Colours have been used therapeutically (Colour Healing, Chromotherapy) as far back as the Ancient World can be traced throughout human history.

Ancient cultures worshipped the Sun and its healing powers. Thoth, the Egyptian god (who was known to the Greeks as Hermes) teachings of colours and their healing properties can be linked to both the Egyptian and Greek physicians through their use of different coloured salves and ointments as remedies, and practised in treatment rooms painted in healing shades.

From an exoteric perspective, colour is a vibration of light and what we see is a reflection of that essence  -  revealed in a wide variety of hues.  Colour is an integral part of our existence and we are surrounded by it constantly.

Even those who are visually impaired are able to perceive the vibratory rate of colours, whether in their mind’s eye or through the sense of feel, sound and/or smell.

The reasons we subconsciously select one colour over another may have psychological implications that transcend conscious awareness, because colour carries archetypal elements dating back to antiquity.

Since the Tarot is comprised of seventy-eight pictographs, which include colour as a means to convey their message, it is important to develop an awareness of the power this perception wields in order to more accurately interpret the cards.
