THE MESSAGE:
Temperance represents the key to higher planes of consciousness. Rising to a higher level can result in bringing about rapid development of the intuitive and psychic senses.

Temperance is the card of vibrational and radiant energy. It tells of tempering and modification within an experience. Temperance tells of the balance of strengths within us and asks us to show moderation in all areas of our lives. With Temperance, it is necessary to have an attitude of moderation in all things.

Temperance combines beauty with foundation in order to produce a balanced lifestyle.

Temperance tells of the realm of feelings and emotions, and these are volatile and changeable and not always gentle. Temperance requires that the flow of feelings, whether they be angry, disappointed, hurt or loving, must be maintained. The nature of emotions is changeable and often unpredictable and often gives rise to conflicting needs. These may not lend themselves to impartial evaluation, yet they must also retain a balance. Just as the mind must strive to achieve a rational balance, so must the emotional heart. The combining of varied substances serves as imagery for the merging of diverse forces to create a new whole, for cooperation, coordination, a harmonious balance, looking for a middle ground, achieving healing, and recovery.

The Temperance tarot card signifies that moderation is necessary in order to maintain harmony in relationships, and encourages one to build on tolerance and co-operation within groups.

Temperance is a card of healing and harmony indicated by the figure of the Archangel Gabriel pouring water from one vessel to another, encouraging us to let the life force flow freely. Archangel Gabriel displays the Hebrew Sun symbol on his forehead. The triangle shown in the square on the chest of Archangel Gabriel, is ‘Septenary’ (the symbol for the number 7), and tells of the Trinity in perfect balance. Archangel Gabriel is the Archangel of the Sun, and tells that one can achieve mental balance. The Sun leads to wisdom, understanding and achievement. Spiritual karma, depicted in the wings of Archangel Gabriel, indicates unconditional love.

The Angel between heaven and earth blending different elements into a harmonious substance represents a bridge between polarities like heaven and earth, masculine and feminine, beginning and end.

Temperance is a card of emotional and intuitive balance. The water depicted on the Temperance card indicates emotions and the connection to the subconscious (the foot in the water). Water is the essence of life.

The iris flower is indicative of the goddess Isis.

The winding road leading to a mountain range on the distant horizon depicted on the Temperance card depicts the soul’s journey. It tells of a difficult road to follow, but one must be aware that it leads to a place of peace and balance.

Above the mountain range is a crown surrounded by light, symbolizing the secret to eternal life.
